Eternia Origins Part 1. The Well Of Souls & Castle Grayskull

On this blog, Eternia Origins and everything relating to Masters Of The Universe is my personal canon.  Much of it is based on original concepts that I wish had made it into the final product. I've repurposed names and places and in some cases  reenvisioned characters to suit my ideas.  Read it and tell me what you think!

Primus. A world with a technologically super advanced civilization. Deep in an underground lab, scientists experiment with interdimensional technology.

A portal is unwittingly opened to Infinitia, nightmare realm of demons and chaos. The planet is overrun by monsters, usurped by devils and gods. The population is drastically reduced to a few holdout cities.

A desperate measure is taken. An entire city of people is sacrificed to lure the monsters back through the portal. Thousands of innocent souls are dragged to hell. The portal is closed, but a rift remains.

The civilization of Primus has been reverted to a Medieval Age. Religious cults arise that prohibit the use and development of technology. Science is regarded as a threat, and much of the technology is sought out and destroyed. The remnants of once great cities are burned.

A few groups dedicate themselves to the protection of technology, for the benefit of humanity. They hide and preserve whatever they can. One of these groups, who specialize in engineering and weapons, will come to be known as the Men-At-Arms.

Over thousands of years, the planet is changed, the very elements are imbued with magical energy.  It's people are changed as well.  Mutations give rise to new races of humanoids.  The old world of Primus is gone.  A new world of swords, sorcery, and savagery replaces it.  The planet is now called Eternia by it's inhabitants.

Wizards and conjurers find they can communicate with the monsters and souls that exist just beyond the dimensional rift. They are sometimes able to summon spirits and demons from this Well Of Souls. To put a stop to this, the Well is buried under a mound of earth.  Above it, the remains of a fallen Elder God are used to build Castle Grayskull. The Well Of Souls is guarded by the rulers of this castle.

Titanic battles between gods and monsters once shook Eternia

Power corrupts, however, and many of the kings and queens of the castle are consumed by the evil influence of the Souls.  Several Great Wars are fought over Castle Grayskull to depose one ruler after another.

It was during one of these many monarchies that a corrupt king cast his own son into the Well of Souls to eliminate him as a claimant to the throne. The prince joined the thousands of Souls that went before him, suffering with them in unimaginable torment.

Years later, the king and his tribe were eliminated by the prince's mother, a malevolent witch poisoner. She used her magic to help him escape from the Well, but when she saw what it had done to him, she went insane and drank her own poison. The prince's stay in The Well of Souls morphed his body and soul forever. His mother dead, he is left languishing in a timeless limbo in the dungeon pits of the castle.

Centuries pass, the wars wane, a forest grows. Castle Grayskull fades into myth and legend.
