Ancient legend tells that Mer-Man's race, the Aquaticans, were once the dominant species on Eternia. Their vast underwater realms dwarfed the land-based kingdoms. They worshipped the giant sea demon Bakull, but failed to keep their god appeased with regular sacrifice. Bakull turned on his worshippers, devouring them in droves until almost none were left. Now only a fraction of the Aquaticans' number remain, divided into rival clans.
As leader of the most powerful clan, Mer-Man allies with Skeletor in the hope that after enslaving the people of Eternia, he'll be able to provide enough sacrifice to tame Bakull and use the sea demon to overthrow his dark master.
